‘Car attacked by gang’: History-sheeter hacked to death on Salem-Coimbatore highway; three suspects shot, held | Erode News

ERODE: A history sheeter from Salem and his wife were attacked by a gang in a Maruti car close to Nasiyanur on the Salem-Coimbatore National Highway in Erode district on Wednesday.
The man died at the scene from his injuries, while his wife was taken to a private hospital in Nasiyanur for medical care. In a related incident, Bhavani Police DSP Rathinakumar shot three individuals in the legs near Pachapali in Erode city as they attempted to flee after committing the murder, and they were subsequently arrested.
Chanakya, also known as John, aged 35, hails from the Kitchipalayam area of Salem city. His wife, Saranya, is 32, and they have a daughter and a son. John has multiple pending cases against him at various police stations, including Kitchipalayam, Annadhanapatty, and Shevapet, with charges that include attempted murder.
Currently, John and Saranya are living in the Periyapalayam area of Tiruppur district. He operates a financial firm that offers loans for two-wheelers and four-wheelers. On Wednesday, they visited the Annadhanapatty police station in Salem city to sign documents related to a case and were on their way back to Tiruppur in their car.
While travelling on the Salem-Coimbatore National Highway near Nasiyanur in Erode district, they were followed by unidentified individuals in another vehicle, which then collided with John’s car from behind. After John stopped, the assailants exited their vehicle and attacked him. Saranya was injured while trying to protect her husband.
John died at the scene from his injuries, while the attackers fled. The Chithode police arrived and took Saranya to a private hospital in Nasiyanur for treatment, while John’s body was sent to the Erode Govt Medical College and Hospital in Perundurai for an autopsy. Erode district Superintendent of Police G Jawahar is leading the investigation into the murder.
In a related incident, Bhavani sub-division Deputy Superintendent of Police Rathinakumar shot three suspects in the legs near Pachappali in Erode city as they attempted to escape after the murder. The injured suspects have been admitted to the Erode Govt Medical College in Perundurai for medical care. The Chithode police have registered the case and begun their inquiry.
