The first week was phenomenal for L2: Empuraan, which opened with Rs 21 crore on Day 1 and maintained strong momentum through the weekend, collecting Rs 88.25 crore in seven days. The second week saw a predictable drop, yet the film managed to maintain respectable numbers, especially on Saturday (Rs 3.35 Cr) and Sunday (Rs 3.85 Cr).
Language-wise, Malayalam audiences continue to be the film’s strongest base, with the film grossing over Rs 80 crore from the Malayalam version alone in the first week. Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi versions added modestly to the overall total.
Occupancy rates
On Day 15, ‘L2: Empuraan’ saw an overall Malayalam occupancy of 17.52%, with the highest turnouts during the evening and night shows. Tamil version occupancies were lower, averaging 14.26% overall.
ETimes review
We gave the film a rating of 3.5 stars out of 5, and our review reads, “The work that Prithviraj and Murali Gopi have put into developing the story is visible and impressive in the first half. But we miss the nous, that some of our Malayalam political thrillers of the 80s and 90s had. Also, a mass entertainer needs massy dialogues; this is a big miss in the movie. Deepak Dev’s music perfectly matches the brilliantly visualised scenes; we get involved Khureshi’s quests and get a feel for the mood, thanks to this. Sujith Vasudev’s camerawork balances the fast and mellow scenes superbly throughout.”
