‘Will return money in 6 months': 'Debt-ridden' thief steals Rs 2.4 lakh from Madhya Pradesh shop, leaves apology note | Bhopal News


The note cited overwhelming debt as the motive, promising repayment within six months and expressing willingness to accept punishment. Police are investigating the incident, reviewing CCTV footage, and have registered a case.

KHARGONE: An unknown person allegedly made away with Rs 2.4 lakh from a cold drink wholesale shop in Khargone district headquarters. He left behind a letter seeking forgiveness for the act, his struggles with debt as well a promise to return the amount in six months, police said.
Khargone Kotwali police station in-charge BL Mandloi told TOI that about Rs 2.4 lakh kept in a bag belonging to shopkeeper Juzar Ali, a resident of Jamindar Mohalla, were stolen.
The case was registered under sections 331(4) and 305 of BNS, and an investigation was initiated.
Mandloi said that Ali had reported on Eid that Rs 80,000 were stolen from his locked house.
Stole money on festival day due to heavy debt: Thief in note
The official said that when the shopkeeper opened the shop on Monday, he came to know about the incident and informed the police. He told the police that he kept about Rs 2.84 lakh in a bag but when he opened the shop, Rs 2.40 lakh were missing from it. An apology letter typed on a computer was found on the counter.
A police officer said that the ‘thief’ didn’t touch Rs 1.5 lakh kept in other drawers of the shop.
Mandloi said that the apology note read that due to heavy pressure of debt, the accused stole the money on the day of Ramnavami. He wrote that he is a resident of their locality and the shopkeeper and his son know him very well. He wrote that three or four days ago, he came to the shop and saw the shopkeeper counting the money.
The accused wrote that he will return the money in six months and will accept every punishment given by the shopkeeper.
The official said that CCTV footage is being watched to crack this case.
